Egypt’s annual inflation rate registered 15.30% in August 2022, compared to 6.40% in the same month in 2021.
When compared to July 2022, the country’s core consumer price index (CPI) grew by 0.5% in August 2022, recording 131.70 points, Akhbar El-Yom cited a report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
This rise was driven by a hike of 12.50% in the vegetable group, coupled with an increase in the grains and bread group and the tobacco segment with 3.30% and 1.60%, respectively.
According to the report, the prices of the food and beverage sector remained unchanged in August 2022 when compared to the previous month, whereas prices of the fruits sector and the meat and poultry segment went down by 8.30% and 5%, respectively.
