Egypt sends a commercial mission to Angola

The Engineering Council of Egypt (EEC) is organising a commercial mission to Angola from 27 June to 1 July that aims to increase exports and access to the African market, which is considered one of the most prominent markets the council is targeting.

May Helmy — Executive Director of the EEC — said that the upcoming mission targets eight main sectors in engineering industries — namely the home, electrical, and electronic industries sectors; pumps; boilers; engines; transportation; machines; equipment; car components; agricultural machines; and table and kitchen tools.

Helmy added that the Angolan market is one of the largest and most important markets in Africa, as its economy is one of the fastest growing economies in the continent with a total local programme exceeding $62bn, which makes Angola an ideal destination for Egyptian exports.

She also noted that these sectors will be targeted as a first phase to ensure focus on achieving the desired results from the mission, which is to increase exports to the Angolan market and expand the presence of engineering products in all African markets.

Egypt’s engineering exports rose during the first quarter (1Q) of 2022 by 32% to record $983m, compared to $743m in the same period from the previous year, according to the monthly report of the council.

The report also highlighted that engineering exports saw an increase of 41% in March 2022 compared to the same month in 2021, reaching $392m in March 2022 compared to $278m in March 2021.
