Egypt’s annual headline inflation rises to 6.4% in August

Egypt’s annual headline inflation rate registered 6.4% in August, up from 3.6% in the same month in 2020, official data showed.

Month-on-month (MoM), the annual inflation rate accelerated during August from 6.1% in July, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Thursday.

The consumer price index (CPI) stood at 114.3 points in August, registering a decline of 0.1% from July.

This drop is ascribed to lower prices of meat and poultry by 4.3%, fish and seafood by 0.8%, and ready-made garments by 0.2%.

On the other hand, the prices of vegetables increased by 4.7%, fruits by 1.3%, milk, cheese, and eggs by 0.3%, vehicles by 1.9%, private transportation fees by 1.8%, and hospital services by 0.5%.
