Egypt’s headline inflation registered 112.9 points in May, up by 0.6% month-on-month (MoM), according to data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The rise in inflation rate was ascribed to higher prices of fruits by 9%, vegetables by 5.3%, and fish and seafood by 0.8%.
Moreover, the prices of private transportation, ready-made garments, and house rentals increased by 1.9%, 1.2%, and 0.4%, respectively.
On the other hand, the prices of meat and poultry decreased by 0.3%.
The most populous Arab nation’s annual inflation registered 4.9% in May 2021, compared to 5.0% in the same month a year earlier and 4.4% in April 2021.
