Egyptian President inspects Mostaqbal Misr project for sustainable agriculture

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inspected on Friday Mostaqbal Misr [Future of Egypt] project for sustainable agriculture in Dabaa city, Marsa Matrouh governorate.

The project targets reclaiming 500,000 feddans (one feddan equal to 1.03 acres) along the Dabaa Corridor road, northwestern Egypt, said Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Friday.

The project comes in light of the state’s strategy to maximize the productive opportunities of land reclamation and agricultural production and to become one of the national development megaprojects, Radi said.

Mostaqbal Misr aims to provide high-quality agricultural products at reasonable prices to citizens, and to bridge the gap in the local market between production and imports, he added, noting that it, consequently, would achieve self-sufficiency and provide foreign currency, thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities, with participation of agricultural companies from the private sector.

he site of the project was chosen because of geographical advantages it provides for export ports, airports, industrial zones, and a number of main roads and axes, which facilitates transportation and access of agricultural products to the governorates nationwide.

The agricultural land is being irrigated by pivot system. It has three power stations with a capacity of 250 megawatts, besides an internal electricity network with 500 km in length and a main road network with a total length of 500 km.

The President was briefed on the details and developments of the current and future stages of the project, and directed to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the various competent authorities to achieve the merits of the ” Mostaqbal Misr.”
