Germany funds Tunisia’s coastline protection with €15-million

The German Bank of Development, KfW, has earmarked €15 million to fund the Tunisian Coastal Protection Program-Phase V (PPLT), meant to protect the coasts of Tunisia against climate change consequences.

KfW signed the financing agreement Wednesday with the Tunisian foreign ministry, state-run news agency TAP reports.

“Protecting Tunisia’s coasts from the consequences of climate change and using them in an environmentally sustainable manner is an investment that will ensure the income of many people,” said Sven Neunsinger, office manager of the German bank.

The Tunisian Coastal Protection Program-Phase V is part of the German-Tunisian cooperation program in conjunction with the Coastal Protection and Development Agency. The goal of this 5th phase of the PPLT is to protect the coastline against marine erosion.

It covers the rehabilitation as well as the ecological and economic valorization of Bizerte, Chatt Mami and Djerba Aghir ledges.
