{"id":326187,"date":"2022-09-13T14:16:50","date_gmt":"2022-09-13T14:16:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/egy-africa.com\/en\/?p=326187"},"modified":"2022-09-15T14:18:18","modified_gmt":"2022-09-15T14:18:18","slug":"central-bank-of-egypt-renews-warning-against-dealing-in-cryptocurrencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/egy-africa.com\/en\/2022\/09\/13\/central-bank-of-egypt-renews-warning-against-dealing-in-cryptocurrencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Bank of Egypt renews warning against dealing in cryptocurrencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has renewed its warning against dealing in any type of cryptocurrency through regional or international platforms.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Tuesday, the CBE said that virtual currencies are not issued by the Central Bank or any official authority, so they are not considered legal tender.<\/p>\n<p>The CBE warned that the Central Bank and Banking System Law prohibit issuing cryptocurrencies or trading in them.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2017, the CBE has been warning against dealing in all types of\u00a0cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin. Egyptian security authorities have arrested dozens of cryptocurrency traders for mining cryptocurrencies illegally.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2018, Egypt\u2019s Dar El-Ifta \u2013 which is responsible for issuing religious edicts \u2013 issued an edict banning the trade in cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dar El-Ifta, \u201cvirtual currencies\u201d are not permissible as they are not considered by legitimate bodies as an \u201cacceptable interface of exchange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that is secured by cryptography, which makes it nearly impossible to counterfeit or double-spend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has renewed its warning against dealing in any type of cryptocurrency through regional or international platforms. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":319744,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[22,33],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-326187","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-banking","category-main"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.3 -
