{"id":323340,"date":"2021-09-13T14:37:35","date_gmt":"2021-09-13T14:37:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/egy-africa.com\/en\/?p=323340"},"modified":"2021-09-13T14:37:35","modified_gmt":"2021-09-13T14:37:35","slug":"egyptian-bourse-proposes-allowing-spac-listings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/egy-africa.com\/en\/2021\/09\/13\/egyptian-bourse-proposes-allowing-spac-listings\/","title":{"rendered":"Egyptian Bourse proposes allowing SPAC listings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Egyptian Exchange&#8217;s (EGX) Chairman, Mohamed Farid, has submitted proposed amendments to the listing regulations to the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to be reviewed as per the Capital Market Law.<\/p>\n<div id=\"Outstream\"><\/div>\n<p>The proposed\u00a0amendments were previously reviewed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during his meeting with a number of entrepreneurs, including the CEO of the Egyptian ride-sharing app Swvl,\u00a0Mostafa Kandil, in the presence of the Minister of International Cooperation, Rania El-Mashat, the Executive Director of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Mohamed Abdel Wahab, and the EGX&#8217;s Chairman, Mohamed Farid.<\/p>\n<p>Once approved by the FRA, these amendments can unlock new horizons for startups with high growth prospects\u00a0through\u00a0expanding into the capital market, which will increase their business volumes and contribute to boosting Egypt&#8217;s economic growth, Farid noted.<\/p>\n<p>Farid proposed introducing rules for listing special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs),\u00a0established solely to raise capital\u00a0for the purpose of acquiring an operating business, in a bid to comply with the best international practices in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed rules, the proceeds will be invested in fixed-income savings pools until the completion of the acquisition.
