{"id":319826,"date":"2020-12-09T12:00:16","date_gmt":"2020-12-09T12:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/egy-africa.com\/en\/?p=319826"},"modified":"2020-12-09T12:00:16","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T12:00:16","slug":"egypts-cib-stresses-importance-of-digital-expansion-in-africa-for-financial-inclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/egy-africa.com\/en\/2020\/12\/09\/egypts-cib-stresses-importance-of-digital-expansion-in-africa-for-financial-inclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt&#8217;s CIB stresses importance of digital expansion in Africa for financial inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Financial inclusion must be supported by expanding access to digital communication technologies across Africa, Sherif Samy said at the Smart Africa Initiative\u2019s board of directors meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Commercial International Bank \u2013 Non-Executive Chairman participated in the Smart Africa Initiative\u2019s ninth Board of Directors meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The event took place under the chairpersonship of Rwanda\u2019s President Paul Kagame, and in the presence of a number of heads of state and government ministers from 26 African countries.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting discussed a number of files related to expanding African countries\u2019 access to communication and information technology (CIT). It approved a project for the bulk purchase of data transmission capacity, as well as the Digital Africa Academy project.<\/p>\n<p>It also saw the launch of four models for projects related to smart villages, digital identity, broadband data transmission, and the environment for emerging innovation and informatics companies.<\/p>\n<p>Samy emphasised the need to strengthen initiatives supporting financial inclusion, by expanding access to CIT services in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>CIB also participated in the Smart Africa Initiative\u2019s steering committee, represented by Islam Zikra, the bank\u2019s chief executive of data analysis and management.<\/p>\n<p>Zikra indicated that, for the second year in a row, the bank cooperated with the US\u2019 Carnegie Mellon University to offer a Master of Science (MSc) programme in Information Systems at its branch in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The Smart Africa Initiative, which Egypt joined in 2016 and CIB in 2018, aims to use CIT and digital applications to advance economic and social development in Africa and take on the challenges of sustainable development in the continent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Financial inclusion must be supported by expanding access to digital communication technologies across Africa, CIB Non-Executive Chairman Sherif Samy said at the Smart Africa Initiative\u2019s board of directors meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":319827,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[69,70],"class_list":["post-319826","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-banking","tag-commercial-international-bank","tag-smart-africa-initiative"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.3 -
