Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is in a visit to Egypt and Morocco from May 8 to 12, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly on Saturday.
Oliphant is set to meet with Egyptian government officials, as well as local and regional partners, to talk about climate change, food security, regional peace and security. He will engage with government officials on trade, climate change and peace and security, in Marrakesh and Rabat, Morocco.
“Egypt and Morocco are important partners and friends of Canada. I look forward to discussing our shared priorities and to further strengthening our bilateral collaboration for the benefit of our citizens and countries.” Oliphant highlighted.
Canada’s largest trading partners in the Middle East and Africa is Egypt. The bilateral commercial relations between the countries are extensive: in 2021, two-way goods trade was valued at $1.9 billion. Morocco was Canada’s fourth-largest bilateral goods trading partner in Africa, with bilateral goods trade reaching a value of over $1.14 billion, in 2021, according to latest figures compiled by Global Affairs Canada.
