Egypt’s exports of building materials hit $1.19B in 2 months

Egypt’s exports of building materials, refractory and metallurgy industries hit $1.19 billion from January to February of 2022, recording an increase of 29 percent, compared with $926 million during the same period last year.

The UAE topped the list of importing countries by $221 million, followed by Canada with a value of $120 million in the first two months of 2022 according to a report released by the Export Council for Building Materials.

Italy came in the third place with a value of $113 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with $98 million and Spain with $71 million, the report said.

Exports to Thailand noticeably soared by 3,244 percent to register $34 million and to Ghana by 350 percent to $25 million from January to February of 2022.

Exports to the US increased by 59 percent to stand at $33 million from January to February 2022, against $21 million in the corresponding period of last year.

cement exports hit $104M in 2 months

Furthermore, Egypt’s exports of cement hit $104 million from January to February of 2022, compared to $43 million in the same period of 2021.

Six countries acquired 66.3 percent of total Egyptian cement exports in January and February, the report noted.

Ghana topped the list of cement importers from Egypt with imports of $23.2 million in the first two months of 2022, followed by Cameroon with imports worth $12.2 million, Ivory Coast with imports of $10.8 million and Libya with imports amounting to $8.3 million, the report said.

Exports of cast iron, steel hit $200M in 2 months

In addition, Egypt’s exports of cast iron and steel went up 4 percent during the first two months of 2022, registering about $200 million against $192 million in the corresponding period of 2021.
