Egypt’s food exports to Russia, Ukraine hit $67M in 2021

Egypt’s food industry exports to Russia and Ukraine in 2021 amounted to $67 million, representing 1.68 percent of the total Egyptian food exports amounting to $4.1 billion at the end of 2021.

The Export Council of Food Industries said in a statement, Thursday, that the sector’s exports to Russia hiked 61 percent, amounting to about $64 million in 2021 (about 20 times food exports to Ukraine), compared to 2020 exports of $40 million. The exports recorded a growth of 287 percent compared to $17 million in 2014.

Russia occupies the 21st place in the list of the most important importing markets for Egyptian processed foods in 2021, and represents 1.6 percent of the total Egyptian food exports amounting to $4.1 billion at the end of 2021, according to the Council.

It pointed out that the total Egyptian manufactured food exports to Russia amounted to $267 million from 2014 to 2021.

The statement noted that Egyptian food exports to Russia in 2021 represented 13 percent of the total Egyptian non-oil exports to Russia in the same year, at $484 million.

It declared that the number of Egyptian food companies exporting to Russia in 2021 amounted to about 152 companies, including 21 companies whose exports exceed $1million, with a total of $46 million, representing 72 percent of the total manufactured food exports to Russia in 2021.

It added that Ukraine occupied the 81st place in the list of the most important importing markets for Egyptian processed foods in the same year, representing 0.08 percent of the total Egyptian food exports, which amounted to $4.1 billion at the end of 2021.

The total Egyptian manufactured food exports to Ukraine during the period from 2014 to 2021 amounted to about $21 million.

The statement stated that Egyptian food exports to Ukraine in 2021 represented 3 percent of Egypt’s total non-oil exports to Ukraine in the same year, amounting to $99 million.

The number of Egyptian food companies exporting to Ukraine in 2021 amounted to about 46, including 9 companies whose exports exceed $100,000 with a total of $2 million, representing 61 percent of the total manufactured food exports to Ukraine in 2021, it noted.
