Trade exchange between Egypt and Kuwait decreased 13.3 percent, to $1.6 billion during the first 11 months of 2021, compared to $1.9 billion during the same period in 2020, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
CAPMAS data showed an increase in the value of Egyptian exports to Kuwait, recording $274 million during the first 11 months of 2021, compared to $229.4 million during the same period in 2020, marking an increase of 19.5 percent.
The agency stated in a statement that the value of Egyptian imports from Kuwait amounted to $1.4 billion during the first 11 months of 2021, compared to $1.7 billion during the same period in 2020, with a decrease of 17.8 percent.
The most important commodity groups exported by Egypt to Kuwait during the first 11 months of 2021 were fuels, mineral oils and their distillation products with a value of $56.4 million, followed by machines, appliances and electrical equipments with a value of $45.3 million, and fruits recorded about $24.8 million, while vegetables and plants amounted to $17.7 million.
The statement stated that the commodity groups that Egypt imported from Kuwait during the first 11 months of 2022 included fuels, mineral oils and their distillation products with a value of $1.3 billion, organic chemical products with a value of $30 million, plastics and their products with a value of $4 million, and boilers, machinery and mechanical devices with a value of $1.6 million, and cars, tractors and bikes worth $1.5 million.
Kuwaiti investments in Egypt amounted to $353.5 million during the fiscal year 2020/2021, compared to $363.7 million during the fiscal year 2019/2020, marking a decrease of 2.8 percent.
Remittances from Egyptians working in Kuwait increased 10.3 percent, recording $4.2 billion during the fiscal year 2019/2020, compared to $3.8 billion during the fiscal year 2018/2019, while the remittances of Kuwaitis working in Egypt amounted to $9.2 million during the fiscal year 2019/2020, compared to $13.4 million during the fiscal year 2018/2019, marking a decrease of 31.3 percent.
The population of Egypt recorded 102.8 million people in 2021, while the population of Kuwait recorded 4.7 million people in 2021.
The number of Egyptians in the State of Kuwait, according to the mission’s estimates, reached 609,000 until the end of 2020, while the number of Egyptians in Kuwait, according to the mission’s registrars, reached 25.6 thousand.
