Banks in Egypt reported a 16.9 percent surge in the size of deposits to 6.077 trillion Egyptian pounds ($386.8 billion) at the end of September from 5.196 trillion pounds at the end of December 2020.
According to a report released by the Egyptian central bank on Wednesday, the government-owned banks’ deposits increased to 1.166 trillion pounds in September, including 1.032 trillion pounds in local currency and 133.909 billion pounds in foreign currencies.
Meanwhile, the non-governmental banks’ deposits also rose to 4.910 trillion pounds in September, including 4.253 trillion pounds in local currency and 657.636 billion pounds in foreign currencies.
