Egypt’s annual headline inflation rate recorded 7.3% in October, compared to 4.6% in the same month a year earlier and 8.0% in September 2021, official data showed.
Month-on-month (MoM), the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.7% to 118.0 points during October, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Wednesday.
The rise in inflation rate was mainly attributed to higher prices of meat and poultry by 6.6%, milk, cheese, and eggs by 3.3%, fish and seafood by 1.9%, grains and bread by 1.4%, and home rentals by 0.4%.
Moreover, the prices of private transportation increased by 1.8%, newspapers, books, and stationery items by 13.1%, basic education by 19.5%, higher education by 16.7%, secondary and vocational education by 5.3%, and ready-made meals by 0.6%.
On the other hand, prices of fruits declined by 6.4% and vegetables by 4.8%.
