Egypt plans EGP 43bn electricity investments in FY21/22

Egypt reviewed the objectives of the electricity sector for fiscal year (FY) 2021/2022 as part of the medium-term sustainable development plan between FY18/19 and FY21/22, according to The Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Saeed

Target investments allocated for the electricity sector in FY21/22 are estimated at EGP 43 billion, El-Saeed said in a statement on Thursday.

The plan includes increasing the production of the electricity sector at current prices to EGP 180 billion in the current fiscal year, up by 7.4% from the expected production of FY20/21 at EGP 168 billion, with a contribution of 1.8% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in FY21/22.

The ministry plans to boost the output of the electricity sector by 9% year-on-year (YoY) to EGP 113 billion.

The planned projects include the East Oweinat electrical network project and the North Sinai electricity supply project.
