Egypt’s non-oil exports increased by 22% year-on-year (YoY) to $17.701 billion in the first seven months of 2021, compared to $14.552 million, Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea revealed.
In July, non-oil exports of the North African nation reached $2.095 billion, up by $74 million or 4% YoY from $2.021 billion in July 2020, she added.
Meanwhile, the non-oil imports rose by 11% to $42.396 billion in the seven-month period ended 31 July, compared to $38.089 billion in the prior-year period.
The European Union (EU) topped Egypt’s export market destinations with $5.574 billion, followed by Arab countries with $5.356 billion and non-Arab African countries with $1.007 billion.
The US was the larger importer of Egypt’s non-oil exports with $1.290 billion, up by 51% YoY from $854 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with $1.116 billion and Turkey with $1.081 billion.
Exports of medical industries surged by 43% to $382 million in the January-July period from $267 million, while exports of leather products jumped by 54% to $47 million from $31 million.
In the meantime, exports of engineering and electronic products soared by 45% to $1.685 billion from $1.164 billion, whereas exports of furniture rose by 19% to $145 million from $121 million.
