Egypt’s annual headline inflation rate registered 5.3% in June, compared to 4.9% a month earlier and 6.0% in June 2020, according to data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The consumer price index (CPI) stood at 113.2 points in June, rising by 0.3% month-on-month (MoM), the CAPMAS said in a statement on Thursday.
The rise in inflation rate was ascribed to higher prices of oils and fats by 13.5%, dairy products, cheese, and eggs by 1.6%, household maintenance services and commodities by 0.3%.
Moreover, the prices of outpatient clinic services increased by 0.8%, medical products, equipment, and devices by 0.2%, transportation services by 0.5%, and tour trips by 3.3%.
On the other hand, the prices of vegetables declined by 2.8%, meat and poultry by 1.5%, and ready-made garments by 0.7%.
