Egypt invests EGP 350bn in improving services in Upper Egypt in six years

Egypt invested EGP 350 billion in establishing several utility and local development projects in Upper Egypt governorates in the last six years, according to the Egyptian Minister of Local Development, Mahmoud Shaarawy

The ministry supervises the implementation of local development programmes in Qena and Sohag which have secured a $1 billion funding from the government and the World Bank, Shaarawy added in a statement on Thursday.

As of June 2021, a total of 3,707 projects were implemented in drinking water, sewage, road, transportation, local unit development, economic development, and environment protection sectors at a cost of EGP 12 billion. These projects have led to the creation of more than 203,000 jobs.

He further noted that the national rural development project will be implemented in three years starting from the coming fiscal year as part of the presidential initiative of “A Decent Life” with investments of about EGP 700 billion.
