Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, El-Sayed El-Qusair, said that South Sudan’s First Vice President, Riek Machar, approved importing poultry from Egypt, according to a statement on Tuesday.
El-Qusair visited South Sudan last week to explore methods of cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two countries.
During his visit, the minister signed a memorandum of understating (MoU) to establish a farm for agricultural, livestock, poultry, and fish production.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) enlisted 14 areas in Egypt as free from avian influenza and another 16 establishments are expected to be enlisted soon, El-Qusair added.
Egypt has reached self-sufficiency in poultry and started exporting products abroad.
