Brazil could become the top importer of Egyptian oranges in two or three years, Egypt’s commercial consul to Brazil Nashwa Bakr told the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
Egypt began exporting oranges to Brazil for the first time last year after Brazilian authorities reached an agreement with Egypt Agricultural Export Authority to allow exports of Egyptian oranges under the Mercosur-Egypt Freetrade Agreement, which includes Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Two Egyptian companies have shipped 24 containers of oranges to Brazil so far, says Bakr, with an additional shipment of 25 containers expected by the end of May. Egypt was crowned as the world’s top exporter of oranges in 2019, exporting around 1.68 mn tonnes that year.
