Nigeria looking to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in combating terrorism: Egyptian presidency

Nigeria is looking to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in combating terrorism, Joe Keshi, the Special Envoy of the Nigerian President, told Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo on Wednesday.

According to the Egyptian presidency, Keshi delivered to El-Sisi a letter from Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on bilateral cooperation, especially in the economy and trade, combating terrorism and boosting political consultations between Cairo and Abuja.

The letter also discussed an exchange of expertise in dealing with the coronavirus and Egypt’s role in supporting Nigeria’s efforts towards development through cooperation in infrastructure projects, including road construction and power generation.

Keshi affirmed the long-standing ties between Egypt and Nigeria, and his country’s aspiration to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in combating terrorism through training sessions in light of Egypt’s role as a key pillar for stability and security in Africa.

El-Sisi underlined the historical relations between the two countries and Nigeria’s status within the African continent and especially in West Africa.

He stressed Egypt’s keenness on bolstering ties with Nigeria through the optimisation of energy and resources in Africa to help push joint African efforts to achieve the developmental aspirations of the continent’s nations.
