The number of tourists visiting Egypt has dropped by 69.5% since the beginning of 2020, compared to 13 million tourist arrivals in 2019, President of The Tourism and Aviation Committee of the Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB), Mohamed Kaoud, revealed
Tourism revenues have also dropped by 67.2% since the start of the year due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Kaoud said.
He referred to a UN report that expects a recovery in the tourism industry by the second half (H2) of 2021.
Globally, the tourism industry lost $935 billion in the January-October period, more than 10 times the loss in the global economic crisis in 2009.
Over the first 10 months of the year, the number of foreign visitors fell by 72%.
